Heading to New Orleans with your girlfriends for a fun-filled Bachelorette weekend will be epic with plenty of options for different personas. New Orleans offers an ongoing list of Southern cuisine, indoor and outdoor activities, music, and lively nightlife.

I was honored to plan my sister's bachelorette party, because it was everyone's first visit to New Orleans (with the exception of myself). It turned out to be unforgettable, and now I'm here to share every detail so yours will be too. We didn't get a chance to do all the listed bachelorette activities, but I've rounded up my research so that you don't have too.

New Orleans bachelorette party ideas

New Orleans has something for every personality which makes it a great place to host a bachelorette. Here are my top recommendations for bachelorette party ideas in New Orleans for the girls getaway:

Book a swamp tour

For an adventurous bachelorette activity, a swamp tour is one of the most unique New Orleans bachelorette party ideas you'll find anywhere. Explore the wetlands, spot alligators, and experience wildlife up close via airboat, motorized boat, or kayak. We chose a smaller airboat to make it feel more special. Pro tip: Go in the morning when it's cooler and the wildlife is more active, and opt for roundtrip transportation service with the tour since ride shares are difficult to get from these remote locations after the tour. Thrill seekers can take it up a notch with tours that combine zip-lining with a swamp tour experience.

Take a burlesque or pole dancing class

Spice things up with an empowering burlesque or a pole dancing class. Trixie Minx offers private burlesque party classes on Saturday and Sundays and can customize the experience to your group's comfort level.

Explore the French Quarter

No list of New Orleans bachelorette party ideas is complete without a French Quarter day. Start with a group brunch at the iconic Brennan's (reservations highly recommended), stroll Royal Street for boutique shopping and antique browsing, snap photos in front of the stunning St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square, and catch a live jazz set at Preservation Hall.

Hunt down the best beignets

Do a beignet crawl as a New Orleans bachelorette party idea for the foodie crew. You have three essential stops: Café Du Monde for the classic traditional beignet paired with their famous café au lait, Loretta's Authentic Pralines for show-stopping sweet and savory stuffed beignets made to order, and Café Beignet scattered throughout the French Quarter for a fun side-by-side taste test.

Spend a day on Magazine Street in the Garden District

Magazine Street is one of the most charming New Orleans neighborhood for a group that loves boutique shopping, vintage finds, and art. When you need a mid-shopping break, stop at the French Truck Coffee for lattes and cold brews, a New Orleans local coffee chain with a Magazine Street location. After shopping, wrap up the afternoon at Hot Tin for craft cocktails and gorgeous rooftop views of the city. While you're here, there are plenty of historic mansions to admire and you might just stumble upon a few famous filming locations for "Disney's The Haunted Mansion" or "American Horror Story: Coven." To get to Magazine Street, you can ride the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar, which is one of the oldest streetcars in New Orleans for only $1.25.

You can also consider a guided walking tour of the Garden District!

Buy souvenirs at the The French Market

The French Market consists of five blocks of local produce, art, handmade crafts, and retail shopping. It starts off near Cafe du Monde and stretches all the way to an open-air flea market

Bachelorette cocktail crawl

For a fun and trendy daytime cocktail crawl through the French Quarter, start at The Carousel Bar at Hotel Monteleone with live music and craft cocktails. Next, head to 21st Amendment Bar for a chic, intimate cocktail lounge with live music, constantly evolving craft cocktails. Then head over to the Jewel of the South which is one of the 50 Best Bars in America, tucked inside the cutest Creole cottage with a stunning courtyard and cocktails. Finish off strong with the infamous Hurricane drink and dueling pianos at Pat O'Briens. Everything is walkable and easy to navigate during the day which makes it the perfect bachelorette crawl!

Reserve a resort day pass

One of the most underrated New Orleans bachelorette party ideas is a luxury resort day pass. You can experience luxury amenities like the pool and spas without the overnight price tag of the hotel. ResortPass connects you to top hotels like Virgin Hotels, Hotel Monteleone, and the Renaissance, each offering a distinct vibe ranging from relaxing and luxe to trendy and lively.

Catch a burlesque show

For an unforgettable nightlife idea, start your evening with a burlesque show. I highly recommend The Van Ella Bordella: A Storyville Burlesque for a storytelling burlesque experience filled with comedy, singing, and exciting performances that will easily be the highlight of the weekend! We reserved the front row VIP section where the talent engaged with the bride-to-be and they also do a great job interacting with the extended audience. The whole night was hilarious and fun and perfect for groups and couples. Heads up: nudity is part of the show, so come with an open mind!

Party on Bourbon Street

Bourbon Street is the prime place for debauchery and shenanigans where the streets take a life of its own at night. The entire street is filled with bars, restaurants, and clubs that is ready to welcome you in. It gets lively, loud, and wonderfully chaotic. Consider starting the night at Pat O'Briens dueling piano bar (but go early if you want seats) and getting drinks at the back of the bar and sing the night away at The Cat's Meow karaoke bar.

Enjoy live jazz on Frenchman Street

Frenchman Street is more laid-back and less crowded atmosphere that feels less touristy than Bourbon Street. Popular bars to consider are Dba, the Spotted Cat, Cafe Negril, or Thousand figs. We even stumbled upon an art alley with local artists selling crafts, art, or jewelry which was a nice surprise.

Gelato speakeasy at Drip Afogato Bar

Perfect place for your bachelorette group with a sweet tooth in the evening, This gelato speakeasy is only open in the evenings starting at 6 pm. All there gelato is created in-house, including alcohol infused baked goods, and cotton candy. Timing didn't work out for us, and I still think about it. Don't make our mistake!

Where to stay:

Consider a selection of luxury hotels worth splurging on, as well as stylish mid-range options.

1) Hotel Monteleone

This classic hotel has a Carousel Bar that rotates, a stunning rooftop pool, live music on select nights, and 24-hour room service making this a great luxurious bachelorette option. Don't want to break the bank, but still want to experience the luxury? You can reserve a day pass with ResortPass to the pool even though you are not staying at the hotel.

2) The Ritz-Carlton

Glamorous French Quarter elegance with beautifully curated common spaces and a Club Level lounge with all-day food service.

3) The Windsor Court

A hotel that delivers old-world European sophistication with massive rooms, private balconies, an acclaimed Le Salon tea room serving traditional English tea service, and fine dining at The Grill Room. It sits just one block from the French Quarter.

4) Virgin Hotels

Stylish, modern hotel with a gorgeous rooftop bar making this a fun hotel for a bachelorette group. I would consider it as an upper mid-range/affordable luxury hotel.

5) Hilton New Orleans/St. Charles Avenue

Located in the Central Business District made it really walkable to the French Quarter! With steps away from the hotel, you can easily access and ride the historic St. Charles Streetcar or the Riverfront Streetcar to explore other NOLA neighborhoods with a $3 day pass (or $1.50 one way). Our group stayed at this hotel and we loved the proximity it was to the French Quarter!

The sweet spot between boutique charm and reliable comfort. The lobby is gives off a vintage NOLA character. Weekend live jazz sets the mood, and the in-house Couvant restaurant is a serious brunch destination. Just steps from the French Quarter without the chaos of being inside it.

7) Hotel Le Merais

20 seconds from Bourbon Street puts you in the forefront of the liveliness. The property has a modern boutique style with spacious rooms (some with balconies overlooking the Quarter). If your bachelorette crew wants to be in the absolute center of the action without paying Ritz prices, this is your pick.

Getting around

When you land at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) there are taxi, Uber ($50–$70 depending on demand), and a public bus option available for just $1.25. We took the bus and it conveniently dropped us off steps away from our hotel. Just download the Le Pass RTA app and you can easily load money each time you ride the bus. You can use the same Le Pass app to ride streetcars and other buses around New Orleans.

The French Quarters and the surrounding neighborhoods is very walkable. Our bachelorette group walked to almost all the destinations except when we did the swamp tour, explored the Garden District, or Frenchman Street.
