Why New Orleans Is the Ultimate Bachelorette Party Destination
I’ve been to several destinations for bachelorette parties such as Las Vegas, Cabo, San Diego, and New Orleans. Each location offers different vibes and I can say that New Orleans will have something for everyone with a unique feel you can only find in The Big Easy. In 2025, Conde Nast Traveler recommended New Orleans as one of the best places to go in the US.
What Kind of Bachelorette Group Is New Orleans Perfect For?
New Orleans is perfect for bachelorette groups who are foodie lovers who like to dabble in a bit of adventure and nightlife, or culture. The age range of visitors for the party scene can range from early 20s to 30s for those who want to experience Bourbon Street, but there are a mixture of all ages for those looking for a more chill nightlife in other areas of New Orleans. Everyone in our bachelorette group is in their mid to late 30s and they had a blast.
When Is the Best Time to Visit New Orleans for a Bachelorette Party?
Best months: March–May for gorgeous spring weather before the summer heat, and October–November for Fall weather with fewer crowds.
Months to avoid: June - September is so humid, hot, and rainy. I’ve been to NOLA in July and my clothes were constantly drenched in sweat.
Should you go during Mardi Gras?
Honestly, not for a bachelorette trip. It is expensive, overly crowded, and overwhelming unless that’s what you want. Mardi Gras spans several weeks, but the most popular time is the final week. Hotel prices triple and many restaurants require advanced reservations.
Consider these big city events when planning your trip:
Jazz Fest (late April / early May): great for music lovers; it's a ticketed event.
Planning impact: Book accommodations 4+ months ahead for Jazz Fest. This is one of the highest-demand weekends of the year so prices go up dramatically. Budget an extra $100–$200 per person for tickets on top of normal trip costs.
Essence Fest (July 4th weekend): Incredible energy, major headliner performances
Planning impact: Hotels are extremely limited and expensive. Book 4–6 months out. July heat and humidity are also at their most intense — plan accordingly with light clothing and shaded/indoor breaks.
French Quarter Fest (Early April): Free live music everywhere and the entire French Quarter becomes one giant outdoor party.
Planning impact: Hotels fill up fast and prices rise significantly the week of the festival. Book 3–4 months out.
Where to Stay for a New Orleans Bachelorette Party
The best neighborhood to stay in New Orleans is the French Quarter for the accessibility to all the activities, nightlife, and restaurants. By staying in the French Quarter, you can easily walk to most places without having to hop in an Uber and there are usually many people walking in the streets too. The French Quarter is the tourist hub, so if you prefer something a bit more relaxed, the Garden District is another great neighborhood known for boutique shopping, historic mansions, and ghost tours. Our bachelorette group stayed in the Central Business District (I'll callout the hotel below) which was only a 10-minute walk to the French Quarters because we wanted a more budget-friendly option
Hotels in the French Quarter:

Hotel Monteleone
$$$ Upscale | Best for the group that wants a uniquely NOLA experience
This classic hotel has a Carousel Bar that rotates, a stunning rooftop pool, and live music on select nights.
⭐ Hot Tip: Experience luxury without splurging on a hotel by reserving a day pass with ResortPass to access the pool, even if you're not staying there. You can use my ResortPass link for $20 off your first booking.
The Ritz-Carlton
$$$$ Luxury | Best for the luxury bride
French Quarter elegance with beautifully curated common spaces.
Virgin Hotels
$$$ Upscale | Best for the trendy, Instagram-worthy stay
Stylish, modern hotel with a gorgeous rooftop bar making this a fun hotel for a bachelorette group.
Hilton New Orleans/St. Charles Avenue
$$ Mid-Range | Best for budget-conscious groups who don't want to sacrifice location
Located in Central Business District, but 10-minute walk to the French Quarter! You can easily access and ride the historic St. Charles Streetcar or the Riverfront Streetcar to explore other NOLA neighborhoods with a $3 day pass (or $1.50 one way). Our group stayed at this hotel and we loved the proximity it was to the French Quarter!
Hotel Le Merais
$$ Mid-Range | Best for groups who want to be in the center of the action
20 seconds from Bourbon Street puts you in the forefront of the liveliness. If your bachelorette crew wants to be in the absolute center of the action without paying Ritz prices, this is your pick.
Hotels in the Garden District to consider:
The Pontchartrain Hotel
$$$ Upscale | Best overall for bachelorette groups
The Pontchartrain Hotel sits right on the St. Charles streetcar line, giving you easy access to the French Quarter. This is a one stop shop to a popular rooftop bar and restaurant; Hot Tin with a 270-degree view of New Orleans. Downstairs of the hotel is where you’ll find Jack Rose, an art-filled restaurant that many bachelorette parties dine at.
Henry Howard Hotel
$$$ Upscale | Best boutique pick
The Henry Howard Hotel is a historic 1867 mansion transformed into an 18-room boutique hotel in the Lower Garden District. Perfect for a bride who wants something intimate.
Garden District Hotel
$$ Mid-Range | Best for budget-conscious groups
Centrally located in the Garden District without the boutique hotel price tag. Walkable to Magazine Street shopping and the St. Charles streetcar. A practical choice if the group wants to save money on accommodations and spend it on experiences instead.
New Orleans House Rentals (Airbnb or VRBO)
Airbnb and VRBO are also available too, but a hotel option in New Orleans will give you peace of mind. New Orleans has heavily regulated short-term rentals with strict permitting and regulations, and many Airbnb or VRBO rentals could run the risk of not having the proper permits. Illegal short-term rentals can get shut down and we want to avoid the bachelorette group getting stranded.
The 4-Day New Orleans Bachelorette Party Itinerary
Here's the 4-day New Orleans bachelorette party plan (Friday to Monday) I used for our trip. We skipped a few dinners since we had late lunches, so I'd recommend planning your meal times better if I could do it over. I've added a few restaurants I wish we'd tried, but you need to book early, so I'm sharing them here so you don't miss out like I did! Plan ahead!
I created the itinerary using a Canva template and shared it with the bachelorette group in advance of the trip. This is a free template that I found on Canva, but there are many great templates on the platform that requires a premium plan. If you want to use the same template, you will need to create a login and you can find the free template in this Canva link here.

New Orleans Bachelorette Party Packing List
I would ditch the heels and opt for wedges or cute shoes you can walk in. You’re going to be walking from bar to bar and the French Quarter has cobblestone streets that don't make it easy to walk in heels. If you’re going during the summer months, you’re going to want to bring breathable clothing like cotton or linen for your outfits. I had one girl in the group wear heels on a night out and her feet were hurting by the end of the night from all the walking. I wore sneakers the entire time because I’m a casual girl, but if you have cute sandals or comfy wedges, that is great too! The dress code for the nightlife can be any vibe you want it to be. Many people dress up, wear matching costumes, or go casually and that’s what I love about it!
How to Get Around New Orleans for Your Bachelorette

New Orleans is one of the most walkable cities I’ve visited in the U.S., especially if you’re staying in the French Quarter. NOLA has nightlife, activities, and restaurants all within a few walkable blocks. There are also plenty of streetcars and buses that are easy to navigate and they also have a seamless mobile app that makes public transportation a great option. We took the bus to the Garden District to explore the neighborhood and returned to the French Quarter with the St. Charles Streetcar, which is the oldest running historic streetcar that still runs today. For the nightlife, ride share apps like Uber or Lyft are the most efficient way to transport large groups at night. We used the ride share apps a couple times in the evening so we didn’t have to do too much walking at night.
New Orleans Bachelorette FAQs
Is New Orleans good for a bachelorette party?
New Orleans is one of those rare places that delivers incredible food, energetic and jazzy live music, iconic nightlife, rich history, and a city-wide culture of celebration that makes a bachelorette group feel welcomed. It's also more budget-friendly compared to other destinations like Miami.
How much does a New Orleans bachelorette party cost per person?
It depends on how you do it, but NOLA is one of the more affordable destination bachelorette cities. On average, groups spend between $700–$1,200 per person for a two to three day New Orleans bachelorette weekend, which is a wide range on purpose because the city genuinely accommodates both ends of the budget spectrum.
Flights: $200–$500 depending on when and where you're flying from
Accommodations: $100–$250/night per person (split between the group)
Food & drinks: $100–$200/day per person
Activities & tours: $50–$200 for the weekend depending on what you book
Bachelorette extras (sashes, matching outfits, decorations): $50–$100
We had a Friends Themed bachelorette party for our bride who loves the TV sitcom Friends. You can also check out the full list of Friends Themed bachelorette decorations for ideas.
How many days do you need for a New Orleans bachelorette?
Three days is the sweet spot. It gives you enough time to experience the French Quarter, get a proper jazz brunch, do at least one daytime activity (a cocktail tour, swamp tour, or cooking class), and still have two real nights out without anyone completely burning out by Sunday. Four days is a great option if your group wants a slower pace with more time to explore neighborhoods like the Garden District or Marigny, work in a spa day, or recover between big nights. One important note: build in downtime. NOLA in full party mode is a lot, and pacing your itinerary with rest windows in the afternoon is what separates a fun trip from a survival situation by day two.
Can you drink on the street in New Orleans?
It is completely legal to walk outside with an open container of alcohol. Patrons of restaurants and bars can take a cup to go — known locally as a go-cup — instead of finishing their drink before leaving. There is one important rule to know: the container must be plastic, not glass. Your group can wander from bar to bar with drinks, but open containers are not permitted in operating vehicles, so drinks are not allowed in ride shares.
Is Bourbon Street the only place to party?
No! Frenchmen Street is just steps from the French Quarter and is the best spot for live music in the city. When New Orleans locals want a night of free live music and cheap drinks, they go to Frenchmen Street, not Bourbon. Beyond that, the Warehouse District has clubs and cocktail bars with a more upscale feel. Start on Bourbon Street for the classic NOLA chaos for night one and Frenchmen Street for live jazz on night two.
